Depraved? Or The 120 Days Of Sodom

So subscribing to the obnoxious school of thought that of “Oh what wonderful foreign cinema this is!” I should have been warmed up and ready to receive this little gem with warm words.

Only.

My Christ it’s fucking relentless. A real onslaught of intensity in the circles of depravity.

Well known for being banned for many years this Pier Paolo Pasolini flick earned notoriety outside of it’s creators umbrella, and even as a ‘banned flick’ kind of movie, this’ll shock you more than any of the others.

It really is horrific, disgusting, tormented evil.

but you know what else was horrific, the holocaust.

Disgusting; Dehumanizing fascism.

Tormented evil; every discrimination that sets worlds apart.

This film began to understand the barbaric nature of human corruption and warned of how easy ‘evil’ consumes.

There’s too many fine lines in this film at which one identifies and it’s that bizarre empathy that pushes the gross indecency.

“The slightest religious act by anyone will be punished…”

The subject matter aside, the structure and nature of the narrative are simply superb if not a little uninspired having taken lodging in the Dante’s first layer of comedy amidst the inferno forming further shells to lay.

An honest, hateful, powerful and worthwhile watch.

So is piracy theft of an idea, or bending the world it sits inside?

I’ve always been a Pooh Bear at heart.

It’s just the rumbly in my tumbly.
